Cyclic Behavior of Rectangular Bridge Piers Subjected to the Coupling Effects of Chloride Corrosion and Bidirectional Loading

The degradation of seismic performance for RC bridge piers induced by chloride corrosion has previously been studied treating the earthquake as a unilateral cyclic loading. Such studies do not consider true response pier under joint effect damage and real multi-dimensional action. Thus, in present study, behavior rectangular subjected to coupling effects bidirectional loading was numerically investigated. First, corrosion-induced deterioration material mechanical properties is introduced. Second, numerical model two corroded built validated with test results literature. Then, time-dependent biaxial circular-shaped (CS) displacement pattern, square-shaped (SS) uniaxial X-direction (UX) Y-direction (UY) pattern analyzed using model. simulation conclude that trajectory paths levels significantly influence peak force, deformation capacity, dissipated energy piers. path corrosive includes stages different force characteristics. Compared uncorroded pier, level 13.7% induces up 40% reduction strength 54% decrease residual ultimate pier. For same degree, SS largest among four paths.
